After decades of contemplation, one couple finally decided it was time for a change. Over 20 years ago, they first considered adding a bathroom and laundry area to their home. Determined to realize their dream home, they turned to Ken Spears Construction for a transformative bathroom remodel.
This project breathed new life into their space, demonstrating that it’s never too late to create the home you’ve always envisioned.
Overview of the Project
Our clients envisioned a fully renovated first-floor bathroom with a modern shower and a convenient laundry solution. Their current washer and dryer were in the basement, so they sought to integrate a stackable laundry unit on the main level adjacent to the new bathroom.

The couple aimed to create a functional first-floor bathroom complete with a shower and a new laundry area with stackable units conveniently located near the bathroom. They also needed to incorporate extra storage space into the design.
How We Helped Them Reach Their Objectives
The Ken Spears Construction team eagerly took on the challenge. We removed the existing deck and balcony above, including the balcony roof. We replaced the sliding door leading to the upstairs balcony with new windows.
We constructed a 9′ x 13′ addition behind the existing pantry and former porch area to accommodate their needs. We also repurposed the original entrance, enlarging the opening between the new addition’s hallway and the existing kitchen to create a seamless transition.

Design Elements Used
We incorporated a range of design elements to bring the homeowner’s vision to life. At the heart of the renovation was a custom vanity cabinet in a timeless Shaker style. The cabinet, with its clean lines and slab drawers, was made from rift-cut white oak finished in a warm wheat stain.
Complementing this, we installed a matching mirror that seamlessly integrated with the vanity’s design.
The vanity’s hardware, from the Richelieu Transitional Village Collection, featured arched cabinet pulls in pewter, adding a touch of classic charm. We chose a luxurious cultured marble in Vein Sandcastle for the countertop, paired with an integrated Malibu sink bowl that provided a smooth, cohesive look.
The Kohler Venza faucet in brushed nickel added a sleek, modern touch to the vanity, while the same faucet was used for the shower, ensuring a consistent design language throughout. In the shower area, we installed the AKER Acrylx 48″ one-piece alcove shower in crisp white, which enhanced the space with its bright, clean appearance and ensured easy maintenance. The comfort-height Kohler Kelston toilet combined functionality with style, enhancing comfort and aesthetics.
We used Paramount Bliss Vintage vinyl plank flooring for the hallway, which offers durability and a classic wood look. The bathroom floor features Paramount Bliss Royal Beige 12×24 vinyl tile flooring, providing a warm, neutral base that perfectly complements the room’s design.
Finally, we completed the exterior with TimberTech composite decking in Coconut Husk and TimberTech Radiance Rail Express in black. This combination added a stylish, modern look and ensured long-lasting performance and minimal maintenance, tying the whole project together beautifully.
